“For Bernard Frize, painting is all about not making choices and not expressing himself.”

The spontaneity of this exhibition is evocative of the artist’s ongoing dialogue with the neighborhoods in which he resides and his sustained interest in the distinctions between public and private spaces. The result is an inclusive experience that gives insight into McGee’s worldview and his artistic trajectory.

“I really like the idea that everything is a repetition in a way, but always with a difference. An echo is the repetition of something, but the repetition is not identical because there will always be a difference. Every day has 24 hours, but there are no identical days, even if you do the same actions, eat and buy the same things. The word ‘echo’ itself is almost the same in English, French and Spanish: they are comprised of similar characters, but with slight differences, and the way you say it is the same but different.”

In an era where technology has enabled vast new networks of connection, these means of communication are—more often than not—unreliant on physical presence and touch. Our own time could easily be described as a paradoxical heightening of connection and isolation in equal measure. In this exhibition, Park’s work is notable for her celebration of a slower and more personal sense of bonding.

Using his signature module of geometric elements, such as bricks or beads, Othoniel creates significant glass sculptures that range from small-scale to monumental. For this exhibition, he presents a new series of suspended necklace sculptures alongside one new work in his brick series, titled Precious Stonewall.
