For this exhibition Hildebrandt has envisioned a total environment. Works take on architectural proportions, acting as a series of screens that organize the space and determine how the viewer moves throughout it. Here, Hildebrandt’s experiments in the visual form of music are amplified, as the viewer is enveloped in a mute musical fabric.

"I started drawing this blockhead form in 2005. In retrospect I can see they were a direct response to my obsession with Guston, particularly his masonry work. I have a distinct memory of visualizing a face merging into a Picasso skull disappearing into a Humpty Dumpty brick wall."

For the Couvent des Jacobins, Laurent Grasso thought of a work that could be installed in the framework of the original bay windows, integrated into the architecture of the new Congress Center by Jean Guervilly. Each bay window is equipped with brass-plated prism-shaped modules. These modules, integrated into the ribs of the former bay windows, rotate in a synchronized manner. The movement of the reflecting surfaces produces a feeling of hypnotic strangeness and transforms the bay windows of the former convent into screens for mental projections.

Claire Tabouret sees her successive exhibitions as different acts in a single play. From one work to the next, from one exhibition to the next, a thread is being drawn, an underlying narrative is taking shape. In the group portraits that characterized a previous stage of her work, each character, as though frozen in a timeless pose, was the mute protagonist of a buried story. In her recent paintings and works on paper, the artist seems to be launching a new form of narration. A tighter, more concentrated narration, one might even say reduced to its essence: you; me; the couple, whether fighting or embracing.

"It’s about this passage as symbolic architecture. When I use architecture in a show, it’s in the interest of stripping away its functionality—that being shelter. I use it instead as a fundamental way of constructing: to divide space, manipulate space, and create space."
