BURN OUT (parking) The smashed parking ground (a), 1994, 60 x 79 cm

The first project realized by Burn Out was the installation of a totally burned-out kindergarten in Galleri Nicolai Wallner in Copenhagen, Denmark, from February 13 to March 13, 1994. The gallery space was arranged as a complete day-care center. The aim was to make the staging as authentic as possible, so that one would doubt whether one was in a real kindergarten or in the gallery.

PIERRE HUYGHE, LIGHT CONICAL INTERSECT

RUE BEAUBOURG, PARIS

1996

For Conical Intersect (a piece of artwork meant as a homage to McCall's movie) in 1975, Gordon Matta-Clark made a gigantic hole in a building destined to be destroyed and replaced by the Pompidou Center, at 27-29 Beaubourg Street. In 1996, Pierre Huyghe, in Light Conical Intersect superposed Matta-Clark's movie and McCall's movie, screening an image taken from Conical Intersect onto the wall of the building of the Horloge's district where Matta-Clark's building was standing (the projection took place from Perrotin gallery, 26 rue Beaubourg). This image represents the moment when light invades the conical cavity dug into the front wall : in a perfect visual coincidence, the architectural structure is solved in light and goes back to its origins.
